For the Level 2 Category, two remarkable Regional winners, Aryan Nair an 8th Grader at Cary Academy who is also the 2016/17 Returning State Champion met challenger Samanyu Dixit also an 8th Grader at Metrolina Regional Scholar for the 2017/18 LEA State Championship at Duke University on Saturday.  At the end, Samanyu Dixit won the Championship.  Well done to these impressive young scholars and congratulations to our champion!  Samanyu will represent the State of North Carolina at the National Championship - Orlando, Florida in April 2018.  

For the Level 1 Category, the returning champion Merritt Cogdill a 6th Grader at Mary Potter Middle School defended his title.  He is the State Champion and will represent North Carolina at the National Championship.  Thanks to all the partipants and much appreciation to our Sponsors!

At the 2017 State Championship 

Aryan Nair the returning 2016/17 Regional and State champion has defended and won the Regional Championship for the Triangle Area.  Aryan is an eighth grader from Cary Academy.  He will be competing in the State Championship.  Williard Dean Lafferty also an eighth grader from West Edgecombe Middle School came 2nd and will advance to State.  Congratulations!

2018 Charlotte Area Regional Champion is Samanyu Dixit.  Samanyu is an 8th Grader at Metrolina Regional Scholar Academy, a finalist at the National  Geography Bee, and a 3rd place winner of the National Science Competition.  He won the regional title last year and will be competing for the State Championship next month.  Congratulations Samanyu!!!

Let's Explore Africa takes Miami!  Competition will be held at Florida International University on Saturday, May 20th, 2017. To attend or for detailed information about the competition please visit www.eventbrite.com

Let's Explore Africa will showcase at the 15th Annual Blue Ridge Classic Track Meet on Saturday April 22nd, 2017.  The Meet will be held at R. Dalton Stadium of A C. Reynolds High School.

The 2016/17 Let's Explore Africa State Championship was held on Saturday March 4th at NC State University, Poe Hall and the champions are:

Merritt Cogdill -  Level 1 Group State Champion  Aryan Nair -  Level 2 Group State Champion 

For the Level 1 Group (4th - 6th Graders):  Merritt Cogdill is a fifth (5th) grader from Joe Toler-Oak Hill Elementary School and is the Vice President of National Elementary Honor Society.

 His teammates and Honor Society members Alex Bridges came second (2nd), Alek Jenkins placed third (3rd) and Ethan Adcock earned the fourth (4th) place.   


For the Level 2 Group (7th - 9th Graders) Aryan Nair is a seventh (7th) grader from Cary Academy, he is an avid reader.  

The two remarkable champions emerged winners after answering many difficult questions correctly.  We salute all the contestants for the courage and hard work of preparing for the challenging questions and enthusiasm about the event. 

Special thanks to NC State University for sponsoring the State Championship!  Much appreciations to Coach Elizabeth McCoy, Angela Cogdill, Bonita Apperson, the parents, relatives, as well as friends who came to support these students and ensured the success of our program!

 Let's Explore Africa Quiz Competition is going National  starting 2017/18 school year!  Please encourage and prepare your students to compete so they can advance to the National Championship Title.
